The media team of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has reaffirmed that he visited the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), despite contradictory statements from the anti-corruption agency.
Earlier, Bello’s team stated that the former governor honoured the EFCC’s invitation after consulting with his legal advisors and political associates.
However, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale denied that Bello was in the agency’s custody, asserting that he remains a wanted individual.
In a follow-up statement, Ohiare Michael, Director of Bello’s Media Office, clarified that the former governor did visit the EFCC office, accompanied by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.
Michael noted that Bello was not interrogated and was informed he could leave without further action.
He stated, “Earlier today, we reported the voluntary visit of former Governor Yahaya Bello to the EFCC office to honour their invitation. The EFCC did not interrogate him, and he was told he could leave. We do not know what this means yet. Governor Bello left the EFCC office, accompanied by Governor Usman Ododo.”
Michael added that the case against Bello is still before a competent court, where the former governor has been represented by his legal team at every hearing. The visit was part of Bello’s efforts to clear his name and demonstrate his respect for the rule of law.
