The Kogi State House of Assembly has called for the immediate removal of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, accusing the agency of orchestrating an assassination attempt on former Governor Yahaya Bello.
The Assembly, during its plenary session on Monday, condemned what it described as an “unjustified assault” on the Kogi State Government Lodge by the EFCC, calling it a direct affront to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the people of Kogi.
Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf, voiced the Assembly’s strong disapproval of the EFCC’s actions, stating, “The House formally categorizes the April 17 and September 18 incidents as assassination attempts on the former Governor, and by extension, a threat to the life of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.”
Yusuf further criticized the agency, saying, “The firing of live rounds within a diplomatic residential zone demonstrates that the EFCC has become rogue, believing itself above the law.”
The Assembly unanimously passed a resolution urging President Bola Tinubu to remove Olukoyede from his position, citing incompetence and the need for a leader who will uphold the rule of law.
This call comes amid ongoing tensions between Yahaya Bello and the EFCC, following an alleged ₦80.2 billion money laundering case against the former Governor. Last week, confusion arose when Bello’s media team claimed he had honored an EFCC invitation, while the agency denied his presence and insisted he remains wanted.
