Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu is committed to the development of Northern Nigeria, countering claims of any agenda against the region.
Shettima made these remarks on Wednesday during a visit by a Federal Government delegation led by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was offering condolences on the passing of Shettima’s mother-in-law.
Shettima emphasized that Tinubu’s appointments of key officials from the North, including Ministers of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, reflect his concern for the region’s welfare amidst ongoing challenges.
“At the appropriate time, we will present facts demonstrating that the President is not opposed to the North, contrary to assertions by some dissatisfied individuals intent on sowing discord between the government and the people,” Shettima stated.
The Vice President urged Nigerians to unite behind Tinubu, highlighting his positive intentions for the nation’s progress. “This is not about assigning blame but about ensuring Nigeria functions. When Nigeria succeeds, Africa prospers. We have moved past mere politics; now is the time for effective governance that benefits all,” he added.
Reflecting on the solidarity shown by the Kano State Government across party lines during his personal bereavement, Shettima underscored the importance of national unity. “Whether PDP, NNPP, APC, we are all part of one family, and Nigeria’s unity transcends our political affiliations. Let us work together to build a greater Nigeria,” Shettima emphasized.
He noted that many members of current parties were founding members of others, emphasizing the shared commitment to national progress. “Together, we can achieve greatness for Nigeria,” Shettima concluded.
