As protests erupt across Nigeria over hunger and economic hardship, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has acknowledged that resolving these issues will take more than a year.
In a State Broadcast delivered on Wednesday in Owerri, Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the economic difficulties facing the country are intricate and cannot be quickly fixed. He stressed that collective support from citizens is crucial for government policies and programs to effectively build a stronger nation.
“The economic challenges we face are complex and cannot be resolved within a year. However, with collective support and understanding, we can work towards sustainable solutions, navigate these trying times, and emerge stronger as a nation,” Uzodimma stated.
He expressed concerns that the current hunger protests might be hijacked, calling on Imo State residents to reconsider participating. He warned of the potential dangers of such protests being taken over by other agendas, despite the legitimate right to peaceful demonstration.
Uzodimma also conveyed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s understanding of the hardships faced by Nigerians. He highlighted that the federal government has launched various interventions and programs to provide both immediate and long-term relief.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply attuned to the plights of our citizens. He has initiated numerous interventions and programs aimed at providing immediate relief while laying the groundwork for long-term solutions,” Uzodimma said.
He urged all stakeholders to share this message of patience and trust in the government’s plans with their communities.
