Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has expressed his satisfaction that the South-East region chose not to participate in the ongoing nationwide hunger protests. Uzodimma described this decision as a display of wisdom, noting the potential risks posed by hoodlums who might exploit the demonstrations.
In a statement released on Friday, Governor Uzodimma highlighted that while peaceful protest is a constitutional right, President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to addressing the country’s challenges.
He suggested that the hunger protests were driven by politicians responsible for the economic issues currently facing Nigerians.
Uzodimma, who also chairs the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum, commended the South-Eastern populace for avoiding the protests, emphasizing their awareness of potential dangers. He praised their choice to prioritize safety and stability over participation in what he characterized as potentially disruptive events.
The Governor also criticized those he believes are behind the protests, alleging that they are the same individuals who contributed to Nigeria’s economic difficulties. He argued that these protests are a reaction to President Tinubu’s efforts to dismantle entrenched interests exploiting national resources.
Uzodimma called for continued support for President Tinubu and urged protesters to seek dialogue as a means to address their grievances. He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s resolve to tackle the challenges inherited from previous administrations and encouraged unity in the pursuit of a better future through constructive dialogue.
