Timi Frank Warns Akpabio Against Provoking Kenyan-Style Uprising Over Presidential Aircraft

Timi Frank, former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, has cautioned Senate President Godswill Akpabio against inciting unrest akin to Kenya’s upheaval regarding the procurement of a new presidential aircraft.

Frank’s remarks came in response to Akpabio’s assertion that the Senate would swiftly approve funds for a new presidential jet if requested. In a statement issued Monday, Frank criticized Akpabio’s comments as demeaning and undermining the parliament’s oversight role.

Frank emphasized the parliament’s duty to scrutinize government expenditures, stressing that Akpabio’s stance risks reducing the National Assembly to a mere rubber stamp for the executive’s whims.

He further questioned the necessity for a new aircraft, highlighting that regular maintenance and inspections ensure the safety of existing planes regardless of their age. Frank also pointed out the significant sums allocated over the years for the upkeep of the Presidential Fleet.

Concerned about potential public backlash, Frank referenced recent uprisings in Senegal and Kenya, urging Akpabio to respect the constitutional limits of his role and avoid actions that could provoke unrest among Nigerian taxpayers.
