Protesters in Lagos State, calling for an end to bad governance, were driven off the streets by thugs in Alausa, the seat of government in the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s office is located in Alausa, where protesters have gathered since the nationwide protest began on Thursday, despite being directed to Freedom Park in Ojota, the court-approved protest venue in Lagos.
According to Daily Trust, around 12 midday, hoodlums armed with sticks, machetes, and various weapons attacked the protesters. The protesters fled in different directions as their assailants advanced.
Security operatives present at the scene reportedly did nothing while the protesters ran for cover.
This incident occurred 24 hours after hoodlums chased protesters out of Freedom Park.
Protesters in some states have refused to leave the streets despite President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide plea to end the #EndBadGovernance protests.
On Sunday, Tinubu called on protesters across the country to cease their demonstrations. His reaction followed multiple calls from prominent Nigerians, including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and others, urging the government to address the protesters’ demands.
The protests, which have been hijacked in some states, have led to the looting and damage of government and private properties.
