Teachers Day: Outstanding Ekiti Teachers Get N33m Awards

Outstanding teachers in Ekiti State on Thursday were honoured with a total of N33 million in cash awards by the state government on the occasion of the 2023 World Teachers Day celebration in the state.

The governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who praised teachers in the state for their sacrifice and dedication to duty, reiterated his commitment to ensuring a conducive atmosphere in the schools.

Oyebanji highlighted the global issue of teacher shortages and revealed that his administration has taken action by hiring 2,000 teachers. This recruitment effort includes 1,500 teachers for primary schools and 500 for secondary schools.

Oyebanji said, “We have 17,000 personnel and others in private schools. The state government is committed to recruiting more teachers in the state”.

Mrs Adenike Osanranmaye and Mrs Tolulope Owoseni were among the beneficiaries of the award, with Mrs Osanranmaye being recognised as the Best Teacher in the Primary School category and Mrs Owoseni securing the award in the Secondary School category. They were each awarded a substantial sum of N5 million.

Mr. Olajide Idowu Adetokunbo, who bravely escaped from kidnappers and returned to rescue other victims, was honoured with the prestigious Teachers Hero’s Award. He was awarded a sum of N1 million, joining the ranks of other individuals who were also recognised for their outstanding contributions.

Two teachers also got the best administrators’ award each with N2 million, others got various cash awards N1.5 million, N500,000 cash, and N100,000 each in various local government areas in the state, both in primary and secondary schools.

The best teachers in the private schools in primary and secondary categories also got cash awards.
