Supreme Court Sets Date for Final Judgment on Local Government Autonomy Dispute

The Supreme Court has scheduled Thursday, July 11, to deliver its final verdict on the contentious issue of local government autonomy, which pits the federal government against the 36 state governors.

According to a report by The Nation, all parties involved, along with their legal representatives, have been duly informed about the forthcoming judgment date.

Documents pertaining to the case indicate that the notice for judgment delivery was officially served on the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja.

The federal government has been advocating for full autonomy for the 774 local governments across Nigeria, while facing strong opposition from state governments.
