The Supreme Court has fixed Tuesday, May 9, 2023, for its judgment in the appeal filed by former Osun Governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressive Congress (APC), against the election of Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The apex court fixed the date for the judgment after hearing arguments from the parties involved in the matter.
Gboyega Oyetola, the appellant in the Supreme Court matter, is seeking to reverse the March 25 judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which affirmed Adeleke’s victory in the last governorship election in Osun State.
The Appeal Court had, in its judgment, set aside an earlier decision by the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which held in favour of Oyetola and removed Ademola Adeleke.
The Supreme Court will deliver the final verdict by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, while the Presidential Tribunal begins hearing today.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court announced the date after hearing arguments from lawyers and parties on Monday.
Aside from setting aside the judgment of the tribunal, the court, in its lead judgment that was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal, awarded N500,000 in costs against the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.
