The Jigawa State Government has identified 6,348 ghost workers through a staff verification exercise aimed at eliminating payroll fraud and improving efficiency.
The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Dutse.
Musa explained that the findings, part of the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise, have enabled the state to save over N314 million monthly in wage costs, equating to N3.77 billion annually.
“The exercise resulted in the detection of 6,348 ghost workers and significantly saved cost with an average of N314,657,342.06 per month and N3,775,888,809.72 per annum,”
Musa said.
In response to the discovery, the State Executive Council has approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service to fast-track the data capture and validation process under the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS).
The council also directed the immediate implementation of reforms to maintain an updated database of civil servants, ensuring payroll integrity and addressing loopholes.
Musa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, stressing that the ongoing efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure the efficient use of public resources.
The commissioner urged residents to support the government in its drive to sanitize the system and improve governance.
