The House of Representatives, on Monday, warned social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), that he risks arrest if he refuses to testify in their investigation into bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), in relation to crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
Although VDM appeared before the committee as summoned, he declined to speak, citing the absence of Bobrisky and the EFCC Chairman. The committee, however, retorted that he could not dictate the terms of the investigation and insisted that he must share his account.
The chairman of the committee reminded the activist that they have the power to compel both his and Bobrisky’s attendance, and if he continued to withhold testimony, they would invoke their authority to arrest him.
The lawmakers urged his lawyer to provide appropriate counsel, stating that VDM’s testimony was critical to the investigation.
“You are not expected to dictate to us whether Bobrisky is present or not. We have the power to arrest and compel attendance,” the committee stated. They further urged VeryDarkMan to provide his testimony, noting that his allegations had already prompted the involvement of high-ranking officials.
