Philip Shaibu, the recently reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, opened up about his ongoing rift with Governor Godwin Obaseki during an interview with Arise TV on Friday.
Shaibu clarified that his fight is not with Governor Obaseki personally but stems from a broader commitment to upholding institutional integrity.
He emphasized that he holds the office of Deputy Governor of Edo State, not just Obaseki’s deputy, and will continue in this role until the administration concludes on November 11.
“My struggle is to set a precedent and protect others from similar challenges,” Shaibu explained.
“We must strengthen our institutions. When I assumed office, I became the elected deputy governor of Edo State. My support for the governor was based on the belief that he would bring fresh perspectives to bolster these institutions, but this vision didn’t materialize as expected.”
Shaibu highlighted the court’s reaffirmation of his position, underscoring his resolve to serve until the end of the current term.
