Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has called on members of the recently dissolved National Working Committee (NWC) led by Julius Abure to set aside their differences and collaborate with the newly formed National Caretaker Committee to strengthen the party.
Obi, speaking through Datti Baba-Ahmed during the inaugural meeting of the caretaker committee in Abuja, emphasized the importance of unity as the party undergoes restructuring. He clarified that Abure’s removal was due to the expiration of his tenure, according to the party’s constitution, and expressed a desire for Abure to continue contributing to the party’s progress.
“No governor unseated Abure; the constitution did. He remains a valued and loyal member,” Obi said, reiterating that the Labour Party must now focus on the future and build on the momentum gained during the 2023 elections.
Obi highlighted the party’s intent to perform even better in the 2027 elections, with plans to secure a majority in the National Assembly and the presidency.
The Chairman of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Usman, echoed Obi’s call for reconciliation, assuring members that the committee is committed to guiding the party through this transitional period and positioning it as a strong political alternative for Nigerians.
