Labour Party leaders, Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti, have formally informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the appointment of a 29-member Caretaker Committee, led by Nenadi Usman, to oversee party affairs.
In a letter addressed to INEC, the leaders explained that the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held in response to the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
The committee, appointed for 180 days, is tasked with organizing congresses and a national convention.
The letter referenced a 2022 agreement between the Labour Party and INEC, outlining the steps taken to address the leadership vacuum following the de-recognition of the Abure-led National Working Committee by INEC in June 2024.
The committee includes key party figures and is charged with restructuring the party’s leadership across all levels.
