OwelekeTV (Sports) – Nigerian star footballer, Ademola Lookman over turns the Champions League woes to score twice in Atalanta’s 5-0 victory at Empoli to reignite the Serie A title race.
This is coming after manager, Gian Piero Gasperini’s criticism of Lookman after he missed a penalty kick in the playoffs tie with Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The away win for Atalanta on Sunday brings them to 54 points, only three behind leaders Inter and two off Napoli further tightening the race gap.
An own goal in the 27th-minute from Empoli’s Emmanuel Gyasi set Atalanta on course for the win after a Zappacosta’s whipped in cross deflected off the Empoli striker and looped into the corner of the net.
Shortly, Mateo Retegui increased Empoli’s deficit to 3-0 six minutes later. Lookman then opened his account for the evening when he pounced onto a through ball and rounded the goal keeper to tap into an empty net for his 11th goal of the season in the 43rd minute.
He then doubles Atalanta’s lead when he beat the offside trap to get the better of Empoli’s defence and struck a powerful angled shot into the back of the net in a typical Lookman display.
Lookman’s two goals on Sunday brings his tally to 12 already beating last seasons tally with 12 games left to play.
