OwelekeTV — The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, welcomed African football icon and former Chelsea FC star Didier Drogba to the Lagos House, Marina, on Monday.
The courtesy visit was part of an engagement between Team Drogba and representatives of the E1 Racing Team with the Lagos State Government.
This was made known in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
He wrote,
“Between Governor #jidesanwoolu and African Football Legend, #ChelseaFC Legend, Didier Drogba #didierdrogba this morning at the Lagos House, Marina, as Team Drogba and the Representatives of E1 Racing Team pays a courtesy visit to Mr governor.”
This is coming after the governor congratulated singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems on her victory in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday.
In a post on X.com on Monday, Sanwo-Olu described her win as a result of her exceptional talent and dedication.
He wrote,
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Temilade Openiyi #temsbaby, for winning the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards with her song ‘Love Me JeJe.’
“This historic achievement marks her as the first Nigerian artist to win in this category, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication.”
The governor further lauded other Nigerian nominees for their contributions in elevating Nigeria’s presence on the global stage.
“I also commend our other Nigerian nominees, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido- for their outstanding contributions to music.
“Your artistry continues to elevate Nigeria’s presence on the global stage, and we are immensely proud of your accomplishment,”
he added.
