Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may not participate in the Peace Accord signing, scheduled for Thursday, ahead of the September 21 governorship election.
The governor voiced concerns about the police allegedly favoring the All Progressives Congress (APC) and launching a crackdown on PDP members.
Obaseki raised the issue during a meeting with the Chairman of the National Peace Committee, former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, in Benin City.
He accused the police of arresting key PDP figures, including Esan West Local Government Chairman Collins Aigbogun, under the influence of the APC, and relocating them to Abuja for prosecution.
He questioned how a peace accord could be signed when the enforcement body was perceived to be biased, stating that the PDP might refuse to endorse the agreement unless the situation changes.
The governor also called for the release of all detained PDP members and their trial within Edo State, expressing fears that the upcoming election may be marked by violence and intimidation.
