The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Kekere-Ekun, who is the highest-ranking justice of the Supreme Court, becomes the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria after successfully navigating a rigorous two-hour question-and-answer session with senators on Wednesday.
She has been serving in an acting capacity since August.
During the screening, Kekere-Ekun was supported by members of the judiciary from various courts, along with her family.
The confirmation process began shortly after President Bola Tinubu reached out to the Senate, urging them to expedite Kekere-Ekun’s confirmation as CJN.
In his letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu stated, “I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as CJN.
“While it is my hope that this request will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
