Francis Nwifuru, the new governor of Ebonyi State, issued an order on Tuesday to immediately freeze all state government accounts held at several banks.
Dr. Monday Uzor was also named by the governor, who took office on Monday, as his chief press secretary.
Uzor had served as CPS to the immediate-past Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Kelechi Igwe.
Uzor delivered the governor’s decisions in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement reads in part:
“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has directed the immediate freezing of all state government accounts domiciled in various banks with effect from Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
“Consequently, the governor directs the managers of all the banks that operate government accounts to immediately comply by ensuring that no payment is made from any government accounts till further notice.”
