Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has turned down a new office assigned to him by the Senate Services Committee.
Ndume’s rejection comes after he was removed from his position as Chief Whip of the Senate, following his critical remarks about the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, Ndume’s Chief Confidential Secretary, Yati Shuaibu Gawu, conveyed Ndume’s dissatisfaction with the office allocation. The letter, dated Tuesday, stated:
“I am directed to inform you that Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the Committee.
“This is because offices are traditionally allocated based on seniority.
“Senator Ndume is the most senior Senator after Senator Ahmad Lawan and will only accept an office on the fourth floor.”
In related developments, leaders from the Southern Borno Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have demanded Ndume’s immediate reinstatement to his former role as Senate Chief Whip.
At a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, APC spokesperson Baba Ahmed Mustapha voiced strong support for Ndume, commending his forthrightness in addressing issues faced by Nigerians under President Tinubu’s government.
The APC leaders urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC and the Senate to restore Ndume to his previous position, citing his continued loyalty to the party.
They also criticized a recent attack on Ndume by Daniel Bwala, questioning Bwala’s consistency and political integrity. The APC leaders expressed confusion over Bwala’s shift in stance, noting his previous criticism of President Tinubu’s mandate.
Defending Ndume’s right to express concerns, the APC leaders argued that his statements were made in good faith, aimed at encouraging necessary government action rather than undermining the administration.
