Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken legal action against the Kaduna State House of Assembly, challenging allegations that his administration misappropriated ₦432 billion during his eight-year tenure.
El-Rufai filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, represented by his lawyer Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The suit contests the findings of a Kaduna Assembly Committee that accused him of corruption without affording him a fair hearing.
Physically present in court alongside his legal team, El-Rufai sought a declaration from the court to nullify the Assembly’s report due to the lack of opportunity for him to defend himself against the allegations.
The respondents named in the lawsuit include the Kaduna State House of Assembly and the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.
The legal action marks El-Rufai’s effort to clear his name and challenge the integrity of the Assembly’s investigative process.
