Italian Serie A club Napoli has reportedly agreed to a season-long loan move for Victor Osimhen following a turbulent few weeks between the player and the club.
Victor Osimhen had initially submitted a transfer request to Napoli earlier this summer, believing he would attract interest from some of Europe’s top clubs. This was despite his contract with Napoli, signed in December, which included a €130 million release clause.
While major clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Arsenal expressed interest in the 25-year-old striker, they were unwilling to meet Napoli’s asking price and Osimhen’s wage demands. Chelsea and Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli continued their pursuit until the final day of the 2024 summer transfer window on August 30, but negotiations broke down over financial terms.
Subsequently, Napoli excluded Osimhen from the squad and reportedly demoted him to the under-23 team. This situation left Osimhen facing the prospect of missing professional club football until at least the January transfer window unless he could secure a move elsewhere.
To avoid paying his substantial weekly wages of over €250,000 while he remains inactive, Napoli began discussions for a loan deal with Turkish club Galatasaray, whose transfer window remains open until September 13.
Earlier today, Sky Sports confirmed that Napoli has “given the green light for Victor Osimhen’s loan move to Galatasaray until the end of the season.”
It is now up to Osimhen, the Nigeria international, to decide whether to accept the loan deal to Galatasaray or remain on the sidelines at Napoli until at least January.
