The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has refuted reports of a helicopter crash in Kaduna State, asserting instead that an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) belonging to the NAF crashed in Igabi Local Government Area.
According to witnesses, the alleged helicopter crash occurred early Monday near Taimi village, with reports of the pilot emerging from the wreckage. Military personnel promptly secured the area for an initial investigation, as residents speculated on the incident.
However, the NAF spokesperson, Edward Gabkwet, clarified that it was indeed a UAV, not a helicopter as initially perceived. Gabkwet confirmed that the UAV encountered a mishap shortly after take-off for a mission near Rumji Village, approximately 15 kilometers from its base. Fortunately, since the vehicle was unmanned, there were no casualties reported.
Gabkwet assured the public that a preliminary investigation is underway to determine the cause of the mishap and emphasized that ongoing operations remain unaffected by this incident.
