The scheduled meeting between Organised Labour and President Bola Tinubu on Thursday concluded without reaching a definitive agreement.
Initiated at Tinubu’s request, the meeting ended without substantial resolutions.
President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, addressed journalists post-meeting, reaffirming Labour’s stance at N250,000 and the Federal Government’s at N62,000.
“We didn’t delve into specific figures. The positions of N250,000 and N62,000 remain unchanged until further discussions,” Ajaero stated.
He indicated ongoing consultations with the Presidency next week and internal discussions within Labour organs to relay the meeting’s outcomes.
Ajaero clarified, “It was more of a discussion than a negotiation. We agreed to review details and reconvene in a week.”
Trade Union Congress President, Festus Osifo, echoed Ajaero’s sentiments, highlighting economic challenges and inflation impacts presented to President Tinubu.
“After presenting our concerns and arguments, President Tinubu responded. We agreed to reflect internally and plan to reconvene,” Osifo commented.
The meeting aimed to address economic hardships and wage adjustments amidst prevailing market conditions, underscoring the complexities of future negotiations.
