OwelekeTV (News, Education) — In a remarkable display of lifelong ambition, 94-year-old Adedapo Idowu has registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), determined to study Political Science at the University of Ibadan.
Idowu, who completed his registration at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State, expressed his delight over the smooth process, calling it a dream come true.
The nonagenarian’s decision to sit for the UTME underscores the belief that education has no age limit. He revealed that his initial hesitation about returning to academics at an advanced age disappeared once he experienced JAMB’s seamless registration system.
“I can now attain my dream at an advanced age. The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the registration venue,”
Idowu said.
His story was featured in JAMB’s latest bulletin, highlighting the strides made in making education accessible to all. Idowu particularly praised the board’s integration of the National Identity Number (NIN), which streamlined the process and eliminated unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
Encouraging young candidates, he advised them to embrace discipline, professionalism, and contentment in their academic journey. He also urged JAMB to sustain its efforts in ensuring equal opportunities for education, especially for the elderly, the underprivileged, and persons with disabilities.
Idowu joins over 700,000 candidates who have so far registered for the 2025 UTME, including 11,000 underage applicants, according to JAMB’s latest statistics.
The 2025 UTME registration, which commenced on January 31, continues to attract diverse applicants, reaffirming education as a lifelong pursuit.
