The Labour Party’s ongoing leadership issue was exacerbated by a brawl between sections loyal to Bashiru Apapa, the acting national chairman, and Julius Abure at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja.
Abure’s position as the National Chairman of the LP had been suspended by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He and four other people were prohibited by the court from impersonating party national officers due to alleged document forgeries, including court documents.
Apapa then assumed control of the party as acting chairman.
However, the tense relationship between the two sides came to a head when Apapa was threatened by a group of enraged LP members on the court grounds, but police officers’ swift action prevented a stampede and stabilized the situation.
