The government of Kano State, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially lifted the curfew imposed in response to the violence and looting that occurred during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests.
State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, announced the decision on Monday evening, citing the return of relative peace across the state.
The curfew, initially enacted to curb unrest, had been in effect for 12 days, with partial lifts granted on two occasions to allow essential activities.
The protests, which began nationwide on August 1 and concluded on August 10, saw instances of violence and vandalism in Kano, prompting the state government to take strict measures to restore order.
With the lifting of the curfew, normalcy has resumed in the state. Dantiye expressed the governor’s appreciation to the citizens for their commitment to peace, particularly during recent mass prayers aimed at addressing the nation’s economic challenges.
He urged continued cooperation between the public and security forces to maintain stability.
