President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Aisha Garba, an international development expert, as the new Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Garba, a seasoned education specialist with over 24 years of experience, has worked on impactful education programmes both in Nigeria and internationally. Her career includes more than 15 years at the World Bank, where she led the design, management, and evaluation of numerous education projects.

A graduate of Petra American University in Jordan, Garba holds a degree in English and Computer Studies. She also earned a Master’s in International Development from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2007.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Garba’s leadership would help achieve the government’s goal of providing quality basic education and ensuring Nigerian children are well-prepared for global competition.
