The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, was arrested on Monday after failing to respond to multiple summonses from law enforcement, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police.
Security sources confirmed the arrest, which is linked to several allegations, including a petition from Air Peace airlines and accusations of extortion.
Additionally, Ajaero is involved in an investigation concerning Andrew Wynne, a Briton accused of terrorism sponsorship in Nigeria—a claim Wynne has denied.
Ajaero previously ignored requests to cooperate with law enforcement but eventually complied with initial questioning. However, he did not attend subsequent sessions as required.
In August, Ajaero was summoned by police over serious allegations, including conspiracy, terrorism financing, treason, and cybercrime. The NLC headquarters was raided during the investigation, which reportedly uncovered links between the Sudan conflict and a suspect tied to a bookshop within Labour House.
The police’s targeted operation at the NLC secretariat focused on locating “seditious materials” used in the #EndBadGovernance protests.
