The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates affected by technical errors during the initial testing phase.
The retake process commenced on Thursday, following a press briefing in Abuja by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on Wednesday. In his remarks, Oloyede acknowledged the glitches that disrupted the examination process, notably in Lagos and across the South-East region.
According to a report by Punch, reprinted exam slips reviewed Thursday morning showed new dates for affected candidates. For example, one candidate is now scheduled to retake the exam on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12 noon in Igando, located in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Oloyede revealed that a total of 206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos were impacted, along with 173,387 candidates in 92 centres across five South-East states under the Owerri zone.
“What should have been a moment of joy was marred by unforeseen errors,”
Oloyede admitted.
“Despite our preparations, issues still emerged.”
Taking full responsibility, the registrar described the situation as a “sabotage” of the 2025 UTME. He assured the public that affected candidates would begin receiving notifications via text message from Thursday, detailing their new examination schedules.
All impacted students are expected to sit for the rescheduled exams between May 16 and May 19, 2025.
