Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV reported that Mahmoud Salah, Director-General of Gaza’s police department, and his aide, Hussam Shahwan, were among those killed in the airstrike.
The humanitarian toll continues to mount in Gaza, with health officials reporting that over 45,500 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war. The conflict, triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, has devastated Gaza. Israel reports that the Hamas assault resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people, with an additional 251 individuals taken hostage and held in Gaza.
The ongoing war has displaced the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, reducing much of the territory to ruins. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with calls for an immediate ceasefire and urgent aid for the region’s beleaguered population.
