The Imo State House of Assembly has suspended four members following allegations of a plot to impeach Speaker Chike Olemgbe, as disclosed by the Speaker himself on Tuesday.
The suspended lawmakers are Samuel Otuibe representing Ahiazu-Mbaise, Henry Agbasonu from Ezinihitte-Mbaise, Chidiebere Ogbunikpa of Okigwe, and Dominic Ezerioha from Oru-West.
Speaker Olemgbe announced that the decision to suspend them was reached during an executive session, also noting that all standing Committees belonging to the suspended members have been revoked.
Additionally, the Speaker made minor adjustments to the standing Committees during the plenary session.
When approached by journalists, some of the suspended members present declined to comment on the matter.
Confirming the suspension, the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Peter Uwa, informed Vanguard in Owerri that the announcement came directly from Speaker Olemgbe.
Explaining the reason behind the suspension, Uwa stated, “They were suspended for allegedly plotting and inciting members to impeach the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly. The decision was announced by the Speaker during the session, and no formal motion was moved for their suspension.”
