Nollywood actress Kiitan Bukola has opened up about her apprehensions regarding marriage and her aspirations for a stable family life.
Speaking during a recent interview, the 34-year-old actress revealed her childhood experiences, which shaped her views on love, family, and relationships. Bukola disclosed that she grew up without the close-knit care of her parents, who had 14 children.
“I do not have a father who cared how I wanted it. Like that love of parent, father to mother together, I did not really enjoy it. So, it hurts me most of the time,” she said.
“I never lived together with my parents. The funny thing is that there are some of my father’s children that I do not know. We are close to fourteen of his children.”
Reflecting on her past, Bukola shared her desire to create a home where her children could experience the love and care she lacked. However, she admitted that her fears stem from witnessing failed marriages and the challenges her friends have faced in their unions.
“I have friends who have been through so much in marriages. And I have some that have enjoyed it. I want it because I want my children to have fatherly care. If I want to have children out of wedlock, I should have done that. But I do not wish to have a child outside wedlock. I have been trying to hold myself. But I want a good home.”
Despite her hopes, Bukola said she is afraid of marriage due to the risk of instability and her desire to provide her children with a loving and secure environment.
“I love marriage, but at the same time, I am scared of marriage because I do not want my children to grow up and not have fatherly care. I do not want to grow up in a separate home. Most people do not want it, but I do not pray for it,” she said.
Bukola also expressed concerns about finding a partner who would understand her career and not feel threatened by it. Her ideal partner, she said, is someone who is prayerful, understanding, and secure.
“My ideal man is very understanding and prayerful. I do not want stress. I want to let someone I can call my best friend. Someone that I host with. Someone I can tell something and will not use it against me. Someone who will not be insecure. Someone who will understand the difference between my job and my home.
“I have dated someone who would tell me to return money for a job on a day I am supposed to go to set.”
The actress had previously announced her engagement in November 2022, but the relationship ended in January following allegations of infidelity. Despite these challenges, Bukola remains optimistic about finding a partner who aligns with her vision of a loving and stable home.
