The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of 35 bodies of minors following a tragic stampede in Ibadan. Six other children who sustained severe injuries are reported to be in critical condition and receiving medical care.
In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Osifeso Adewale, disclosed the details of the casualties.
“So far, 35 minors have been documented dead while six others are critically injured and undergoing various medical interventions,”

The stampede occurred during a funfair organized at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan. The event, reportedly hosted by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, a former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, spiraled out of control, leading to the devastating loss of lives.
Authorities have since arrested eight individuals linked to the event. Those apprehended include Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, Fasasi Abdulahi (the school principal), Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisolaja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin.
The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident and to ensure that those found culpable are held accountable.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with calls for tighter regulations on event safety and proper crowd control measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
