Ayobami Sodiq, popularly known as Spending, a close associate of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad has refuted claims of concealing information about the singer’s death.
Sodiq faced public scrutiny after making conflicting statements regarding his last encounter with Mohbad. Initially, he claimed he saw the singer at 9 PM on the day of his passing, but he later clarified that the actual time was between 11 AM and 12 PM. He attributed the inconsistency to emotional distress and psychological trauma stemming from Mohbad’s sudden death.
In a statement posted on his social media handles on Monday, Spending admitted that the earlier timing he gave was inaccurate, explaining that anxiety and trauma had clouded his judgment. He also revealed that he was wrongfully accused of being at Mohbad’s residence on the day of his death and was detained by the police, which further affected his mental state.
Emotional Clarification and Testimony
Sodiq explained,
“I would like to clarify that the last time I saw him alive was between 11 AM and 12 PM. I left his house between 3 PM and 4 PM on Monday, September 11, 2023. This is consistent with my testimony at the coroner’s inquest. My earlier statement during a TikTok livestream was inaccurate due to the psychological and emotional toll I was under.”
He apologized for any confusion caused by his earlier statements and maintained that he never intended to mislead or withhold information regarding Mohbad’s death.
Denial of Allegations
Sodiq also refuted claims that he discussed the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death with social media influencers while in custody. He denied the existence of any audio recordings or text messages regarding such conversations, calling them fabrications.
“I was wrongfully accused of being present at Mohbad’s house on the day he died and detained at the police station. I was not in the right frame of mind when the earlier statements were made. I reiterate that I did not have any conversations about Mohbad’s death with influencers or anyone except Westo and his assistant,” he clarified.
Call for Justice
Reiterating his call for justice, Sodiq expressed his grief over Mohbad’s untimely death.
“Mohbad’s untimely passing is still painful, and I am still trying to recover from the trauma. I pray that Mohbad gets the justice he deserves, and I urge his killers to be brought to book,” he said.
The circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death remain a subject of intense public interest, with many calling for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.
