The House of Representatives has pledged to conduct thorough scrutiny of President Bola Tinubu’s request to add ₦6.2 trillion to the 2024 budget, emphasizing that every aspect of the proposal will be carefully reviewed to ensure it serves the best interests of Nigerians before granting legislative approval.
Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesperson of the House, reiterated this commitment during a media interaction in Abuja on Friday.
He highlighted that President Tinubu sought approval for significant withdrawals from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, both for capital and recurrent expenditures, as well as proposed amendments to the Finance Act, 2023.
Agbese assured that the House, in collaboration with the Senate, will work diligently to expedite the passage of the supplementary budget while maintaining transparency and thoroughness in the process. He underscored the importance of utilizing public resources efficiently and ensuring the budget’s inclusivity to benefit all Nigerians.
“We will ensure that every kobo is well utilized and that the budget ultimately serves the interests of our constituents. Transparency and accountability will guide our scrutiny, and we are confident in delivering a budget that benefits all Nigerians,” Agbese affirmed.
