The Nigerian Senate has urged the organizers of the planned #EndBadGovernance protests to allow President Bola Tinubu more time to implement his policies and see their results.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this appeal following an executive session of the Senate, which was attended by 75 Senators despite rumors that some had left the country in anticipation of the protests.
The Senate argues that one year is insufficient for the President’s economic and social policies to take effect and deliver noticeable results.
This appeal from the Senate comes amid growing concerns from various stakeholders regarding the protests scheduled to begin on August 1.
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has called on protest organizers to share pertinent information with the police to help prevent any potential disruptions of law and order.
Additionally, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State have also urged the protest organizers to reconsider their plans in the interest of maintaining national peace.
Despite these appeals, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed his support for the protests.
