The 10th National Assembly’s Senate elected Senator Godswill Akpabio to serve as its president.
Abdul-Azeez Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, received 46 votes, losing to Akpabio’s 63 votes.
Recall that the former governor of Akwa-Ibom State received support for the position of Senate President from the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee in May.
Additionally, the party supported Tajudeen Abass’ election as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
109 senators took part in the voting process, which was completed at 9:15 a.m.
Under previous President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, Akpabio held the position of Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
