The Kwara State Government has taken delivery of 20 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered buses and 20 tricycles as part of the federal initiative to transition Nigeria towards cleaner energy solutions.
Speaking at the handover event in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq appreciated the federal government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing measures to ease the burden of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians. He highlighted that the newly acquired vehicles would be incorporated into Kwara’s public transport system, with fares adjusted to ensure affordability for residents.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), Mr. Toyin Zubair, emphasized the importance of the CNG program, describing it as a step toward economic and environmental sustainability. Zubair revealed that the federal government aims to transition one million vehicles nationwide from petrol to CNG, fostering a shift to more cost-effective and eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to innovative solutions that address transportation challenges while promoting economic growth. The introduction of the CNG-powered fleet aligns with Kwara State’s broader goal of enhancing public mobility and reducing environmental pollution.
