The Kano State High Court has postponed the hearing of an application in the ongoing Kano Emirship Tussle case to July 4.
The Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, and the House of Assembly itself, represented by their counsel Ibrahim Isah-Wangida Esq, filed a motion ex parte dated May 27.
They are seeking an order to restrain the 15th emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and four other dethroned emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from presenting themselves as traditional rulers.
The respondents include Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero (Emir of Bichi), Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II (Emir of Karaye), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa (Emir of Rano), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya (Emir of Gaya).
Others named in the case are the Inspector-General of Police, Director State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Nigeria Army.
During the proceedings on all pending applications, counsel to the applicants, Eyitayo Fatogun SAN, informed the court that they had received five processes from the first respondent on July 1 at about 6:30 p.m.
“My Lord, we received the respondent’s five processes yesterday evening, and we have filed all our responses. We request the court to grant us 30 minutes to stand down to serve the respondent with our responses,” Fatogun stated.
Abdul Muhammed SAN, counsel to Ado-Bayero, opposed the 30-minute standdown and requested an adjournment to allow sufficient time for reply and the filing of their applications.
In response, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu adjourned the matter until July 4 for the hearing of all pending applications and originating motions.
