Emefiele Directed Me Not To Record Money Transactions – Witness Testifies

In a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, a dispatch rider named Monday Osazuwa testified that former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele instructed him not to document any financial transactions carried out on his behalf.

Osazuwa, serving as the first prosecution witness in Emefiele’s trial, resumed his testimony on Monday after Justice Rahman Oshodi granted an application for his recall.

Emefiele is facing charges of alleged abuse of office and money laundering amounting to $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion.

During the cross-examination by Emefiele’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Olalekan Ojo, Osazuwa confirmed that Emefiele had personally advised him on several occasions not to document any details related to the funds he collected or delivered.

He also admitted to having no documentation or receipts from Emefiele or co-defendant Henry Omoile regarding these transactions.

Osazuwa further acknowledged that there were no witnesses present when he transferred funds to Emefiele.

Before Osazuwa’s testimony, Ifeoma Ogbonnaya, a business relationship manager with Zenith Bank and the fifth prosecution witness, concluded her own testimony.

She confirmed that while she had communicated with Mrs. Margaret Emefiele concerning certain company accounts, there was no documented link between these accounts and Godwin Emefiele, nor any involvement of the second defendant, Henry Omoile.

Additionally, John Ogah, the sixth prosecution witness and former Zenith Bank employee who also served as the Secretary for Administration to the CBN Governor, provided his testimony.

Justice Oshodi has adjourned the case until Wednesday, October 30, for further proceedings.
