Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai stated on Wednesday that the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano ranks among the most significant events in his life. El-Rufai made this remark during the Arewa Tech Fest held in Kano.
The festival attracted politicians and technocrats who gathered to discuss advancements in Northern Nigeria. Key figures present included the governors of Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara states.
El-Rufai expressed his congratulations, saying, “The reinstatement of his highness is one of the most important events in my life, and I want to congratulate you once again.”
In a related development, a photo of Emir Sanusi walking on a customized rug engraved with his adopted name, ‘Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II,’ has sparked controversy. Some Islamic clerics have accused the emir of disrespecting religious traditions by stepping on the name ‘Muhammad.’
In response to the backlash, Emir Sanusi defended his actions, emphasizing that the intentions behind his actions are what truly matter. He referenced religious teachings to clarify that he meant no disrespect to the Prophet Muhammad.
The discussion surrounding this issue intensified after a video surfaced featuring Muhammad Sharif, a Zaria-based Islamic cleric. Sharif criticized the emir for allegedly not adhering to the protocols established by the Tijjaniyya order’s founders, Ahmadu Tijjani and Ibrahim Niasse.
