In his Eid-el Maulud message on Monday, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressed concern over the hardships Nigerians are facing due to the federal government’s economic policies.
Obi called on Nigerians to show empathy towards one another and embrace the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, which emphasize love, compassion, and kindness.
On his X handle, the former governor of Anambra State wrote, “I am delighted to join the Islamic community in Nigeria and globally in celebrating Eid-el Maulud!”
He acknowledged that the celebration comes at a time of widespread hardship, with millions of citizens suffering due to economic challenges, lack of basic healthcare, and the troubling number of children out of school.
“These challenges weigh heavily on our collective conscience,” Obi remarked, emphasizing the urgent need to uplift the people.
He encouraged Nigerians to draw strength from the teachings of the Prophet and be their brother’s keeper, advocating for unity, empathy, and working together to address inequalities.
Reflecting on the values that unite the nation, Obi urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to building a just, equitable, and prosperous society where every individual has the chance to thrive.
“Eid-el Maulud Mubarak! Wishing Muslim families peace, joy, and prosperity. May your prayers bring lasting peace and security to our troubled nation,” he concluded.
