The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a renewed attempt to arrest the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, as operatives reportedly laid siege to the Kogi Government Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
According to Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, the incident occurred shortly after Bello had voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters earlier in the day for questioning, raising concerns about the agency’s intentions.
Michael questioned why the former governor was not interrogated during his visit but is now the subject of a forceful arrest attempt.
“It has come to our attention that individuals suspected to be EFCC operatives are attempting to arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello at the Kogi Government Lodge, shooting sporadically,” Michael said.
Bello’s media team maintains that the former governor willingly honored the EFCC’s invitation, but the agency has since disputed this claim.
“The EFCC had no questions for Bello earlier today when he voluntarily appeared, but now they are staging this aggressive attempt to arrest him,” Michael added, accusing the EFCC of pursuing political motives rather than focusing on fighting corruption.
Michael warned that the EFCC should be held accountable if anything happens to the former governor and vowed to keep the public informed on further developments.
