The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has initiated an immediate investigation into allegations of bribery involving some EFCC operatives in a case concerning popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
This action follows accusations by social media activist and influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, who alleged that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him. Otse also claimed Bobrisky was kept in a private apartment during his jail term instead of a regular prison cell.
In response to the viral video circulating on social media, Olukoyede ordered a team of investigators to look into the claims. The EFCC, through its spokesperson Dele Oyewale, confirmed that both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan have been summoned for questioning at the commission’s Lagos office.
“The EFCC Chairman has directed a thorough investigation into the alleged bribery involving Idris Okuneye, as claimed in the video by Martins Vincent Otse. Both parties are requested to appear before the commission to assist with the inquiry,” the statement read.
The EFCC further assured the public that the matter will be properly investigated, and any officials found guilty will be held accountable. The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency, integrity, and professionalism in all its operations.
Bobrisky was previously released from prison in August after serving a six-month sentence for abusing the naira, following a ruling by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos earlier this year.
