The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki, labeling him as ungrateful and accusing him of failing to win elections without external support.
In an interview with Arise TV, following the conclusion of the 2024 Edo governorship election, Shaibu expressed satisfaction with the election’s outcome, which saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerge victorious. He said this result vindicated him against claims that he could not secure electoral success.
Commenting on Governor Obaseki, Shaibu clarified that he does not see him as an enemy but highlighted that the election had exposed Obaseki’s inability to win elections independently. He pointed out that Obaseki had always relied on those around him to secure victories.
Shaibu further mocked the governor for not only losing the governorship race but also failing to deliver his local government for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I feel vindicated. Even the governor couldn’t win his local government. I won my unit, ward, and local government. Where are the governor’s results? He has never won on his own; we always assisted him,” Shaibu remarked.
He concluded by advising Obaseki to start apologizing to the people of Edo State for past grievances, noting that the governor had many individuals to make amends with.
