The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside party officials, has donated ₦50 million to assist victims of the recent flood disaster in Borno State.
Obi, joined by the LP Caretaker Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman; the 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed; the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, Tanko Yunusa; and other party members, made the donation during a solidarity visit to Governor Babagana Zulum on Tuesday.
In a statement on his X account, Obi emphasized the Labour Party’s commitment to providing further assistance to the flood-affected individuals. The statement read:
“During our visit, we met with Governor Babagana Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, and the people of Borno State, following the devastating floods that claimed lives and caused significant property damage.
“We also visited the Bank of the North spare parts market, where traders lost their goods, an IDP camp at Government College, and a woman who tragically lost her newborn twins to the flood.”
Obi reaffirmed the party’s dedication to supporting those impacted by the flood, stating: “We have made an initial donation of ₦50 million to the state government, but our assistance will not end here. We will continue to stand by the people of Borno, offering aid and resources to help them recover and rebuild.”
The former governor of Anambra State also extended prayers for those affected, expressing hope for their quick recovery and resilience.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected. May God grant peace to those who lost their lives, replenish the losses of those affected, and bless the people of Borno and Nigeria,” Obi concluded.
