The wife of Bauchi State governor, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed in collaboration with the state Ministry of Education has renovated and furnished the Special Education Centre to enhance inclusive education for children with special needs.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Aisha Bala said the centre had been completely renovated with a fence, hostels, classrooms, kitchen, dining halls, admin block and staff rooms including wash facilities among others.
She informed the gathering that the project was part of her contribution towards improving the education sector and welfare of people with special needs.
“To further safeguard their lives and properties, we have upgraded the school clinic with equipment, drugs and other medical consumables. We have also increased the number of matrons and security personnel to the schools,” she said.
In her welcome address the state commissioner for education, Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, said the center would continue to be a place for transformation, inspiration and boundless opportunities for generations to come.
According to her, the center Yelwa was established in 1984 with the aim of providing qualitative education, skills and training to children with special needs.
