Former U.S. President Barack Obama has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the White House.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Obama shared, “Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support.”
Obama’s endorsement follows President Joe Biden’s announcement on Wednesday night, in which he explained his decision to withdraw from the upcoming November 5 election.
Biden, who previously served as Vice President under Obama, will continue to serve as President and Commander-in-Chief until his term ends in January 2025.
In a televised address, Biden, who at 77 became the oldest person ever elected President in 2020, stated that his decision was driven by a commitment to protect American democracy rather than personal ambition.
“I revere this office. But I love my country more. I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation,” Biden said.
He also voiced his support for Harris, aligning with Obama’s endorsement.
